Ready or Not developer, Void Interactive, has issued a statement in response to the ongoing review bombing the game is receiving on Steam following the announcement that the FPS would undergo some minor censorship ahead of its release on consoles on July 15, 2025.

Void Interactive recently revealed it would be censoring parts of its realistic SWAT shooter Ready or Not in preparation for the game’s release on consoles, something which players on Steam have responded to with a flood of negative reviews.
Since the developer’s announcement, the game has gone from a “Very Positive” rating to “Mostly Negative” in only six days. In response, Void has clarified what is changing in a new statement.
Review Bombing Hits Ready or Not
Players have been bombarding Ready or Not with negative reviews on Steam following the announcement that it would receive censorship ahead of its release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 15, 2025.
Dropping the game’s rating from Mixed to Mostly Negative in just a few days, players are unhappy that developer Void Interactive is choosing to reduce nudity and graphic violence so the realistic shooter can launch on consoles.
The developer previously stated it chose to censor the game on PC so that the game receives the same updates across all platforms. By ensuring the game is the same on all platforms, the game can also benefit from cross-platform multiplayer, which would not be possible if two different versions were available on PC and consoles.
Developer Response With Side-by-Side Screenshots
To combat the negative reviews and offer clarity to players, Void Interarctive has released before-and-after screenshots of the type of content being censored to “ensure a smooth global launch across platforms.”
The developer stated in its recent blog post: “As a hyper-realistic tactical FPS, Ready or Not faces different scrutiny than more stylized or fictional games. That’s a reality of the world we publish in — not a change in our creative vision or values.”
In total, there are six “targeted” visual changes to the PC version that will bring the platform in line with consoles:
- Twisted Nerve: The girl is now depicted as sleeping instead of convulsing.
- A Lethal Obsession: Nudity involving the ghillie suit suspect has been adjusted.
- Hide and Seek: Female hostages now wear underwear.
- Narcos: Police informant hostage now wears underwear.
- 23 Megabytes a Second: ‘Photo of Minors’ objective model was revised, also to better connect narratively with the later ‘Sinuous Trail’ mission.
- Post-mortem dismemberment has been disabled (note: dismemberment for living characters remains unchanged).
Void also shared the following screenshots of what these looked like before and after censorship:

Community Feedback
So far, the bad reviews continue to pour in for Ready or Not, with many fans still sharing their dissatisfaction with Void Interactive. On the Steam community post, one user calls the FPS a “dead game,” while another simply states “censorship is bad.”
Ready or Not is a hardcore, realistic SWAT FPS, and players are seeing censorship as a backward step, with the developer turning its back on its values and core vision for the game. The game’s reception on consoles remains uncertain, with its launch scheduled for July 15, 2025, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside the PC version, which has also faced censorship.
Conclusion
Void Interactive has responded to recent fan criticisms and review bombing for the added censorship coming to Ready or Not when it launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 15, 2025. To ensure a smooth release, the developer has censored some graphic violence and nudity. Do you think the recent negative reviews on Steam are fair? Share your thoughts in the comments.
