Rainbow Six Siege was shut down after a major breach flooded players with billions of credits, rare skins, Alpha Packs, and random bans.

What Do Game Pass Members Get With R6 Siege X At Launch?

Any server shutdown or major security breach is never a good thing. But having it happen during the holidays when player counts spike and everyone’s online grinding is pretty much the worst timing imaginable. Unfortunately, that’s exactly where Rainbow Six Siege found itself last night as players flooded social media with reports of an incident that left the game’s economy, inventory system, and even bans looking completely out of control.

Rainbow Six Siege Shuts Down After Major Breach

Ubisoft has had more than its fair share of bad headlines this year and it looks like 2025 isn’t letting them off the hook just yet. Last night, Rainbow Six Siege players started reporting bizarre and alarming issues while in-game.

Some accounts were suddenly loaded with billions of R6 Credits despite never purchasing them (who’d do that anyway?). On top of that, thousands of Alpha Packs were distributed, and even developer-only skins including the Glacier were spotted in people’s inventories. While at face value that sounds awesome, in reality, it was a glaring sign that something had gone very, very wrong.

It wasn’t just the in-game economy that was compromised too. Reports quickly spread that the ban system itself appeared to be malfunctioning or hijacked, with players being banned and unbanned at random. Even high-profile accounts weren’t spared with some streamers and content creators claiming they, too, were getting banned.

The situation escalated fast with the game’s stability and integrity collapsing in real time. Popular Siege creator KingGeorge even described the whole situation as “completely f***ed”, and strongly advised people not to log in yet.

Not long after the flood of reports and viral posts, Ubisoft issued an official statement through the game’s X account, confirming that they had shut down both Rainbow Six Siege and the Marketplace as they investigated and worked toward a fix.

Although that’s a good step forward (and a logical one), the community was a bit irked and frustrated as Ubisoft didn’t clearly admit that the incident was a breach. Instead, players were left reading between the lines, and for many (or honestly, all), it looked like a textbook case of a security breach or hack, with Ubisoft being noticeably cautious about labeling it that way.

In their latest update, Ubisoft also attempted to calm the panic surrounding bans and the influx of currency. They clarified that players will not be banned from spending the credits they received. They also confirmed that a rollback of transactions is already underway.

The ban situation though was more vague however. Ubisoft claimed that the ban ticker had been turned off in an earlier update, meaning some of the bans players saw weren’t them. At the same time, they also referenced an official R6 ShieldGuard ban wave but insisted it was unrelated to the incident.

Take that however you want but with the core issue still unresolved, the smartest move right now is simple, don’t touch the game until Ubisoft confirms the all-clear.

For now, Rainbow Six Siege remains in limbo and players are left waiting not only for servers to return, but for clearer answers on how something this massive was even possible in the first place.
