MIO: Memories In Orbit launches today as a day one title on Xbox Game Pass, giving subscribers a new metroidvania to play at no extra cost.

January has already delivered some strong additions to Xbox Game Pass with titles like Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition and Star Wars Outlaws. However, it still needs to be said, this month feels a little light on day one releases.

While we have only seen the first wave of announcements so far, it does not seem likely that the second half of January will be packed with surprise launches. But ok, let’s look at the silver lining. Today brings one (of two!) of those day one additions and it’s a good one. MIO: Memories In Orbit launches today and is available immediately through Xbox Game Pass.

 

MIO Memories In Orbit Joins Xbox Game Pass on Day-One

MIO: Memories In Orbit is a highly anticipated metroidvania, and if its demo was any indication, Game Pass members are getting a great deal with this release. The game features fluid movement, stylish combat, and a striking visual style that has already drawn comparisons to Hollow Knight Silksong. While those similarities are easy to spot, MIO still manages to carve out its own identity with its atmosphere, world design, and gameplay ideas.

This release marks the second day one Game Pass addition this month, following the shadowdrop of Quarantine Zone: The Last Check on January 12. Joining MIO today is Resident Evil Village which also enters Game Pass Ultimate and PC tiers.

MIO Memories In Orbit is a hand crafted metroidvania where you play as MIO, a nimble robot exploring the ruins of a massive drifting spacecraft known as the Vessel, an overgrown technological ark filled with rogue machines and lost memories. As you navigate its interconnected biomes, you unlock movement abilities like grappling, air gliding, and wall clinging, battle a wide range of enemies and bosses, repair damaged robots, and customize your powers using scavenged components.

The game officially launched on January 20, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch consoles.
