Outward 2 (OW2) is the new chapter and successor to the fantasy survival RPG adventure from Nine Dots Studio. The Canadian indie development team, founded in 2011, saw huge success with the first Outward, which was in development from 2015 and debuted in 2019. Published by Deep Silver, it brought us to the fantasy world of Aurai, offering a fantasy survival adventure playable both online and in co-op.
With the strong points of a survival experience, you’ll have to face weather conditions, dangers, and explore for resources. This is paired with a dynamic RPG experience that will test players in every run. With the sequel first announced during the team’s March 2024 Reveals, it promises an improved experience in every way. Outward 2: Release Window Announced
Following the announcement in March 2025, the team at Nine Dots Studio finally brings new news on Outward 2. The sequel and new chapter of the fantasy survival RPG adventure in the world of Aurai. The Canadian team has confirmed the game’s release window. It’s scheduled for Summer 2026 on PC.
The announcement was accompanied by the official trailer, with a first showcase of the new adventure. Here, as ordinary adventurers, we’ll have to explore a world as enchanting as it is full of dangers. With improved gameplay that will put players to the test, making use of everything at their disposal to survive and face the biggest challenges.
Outward 2: What the Successor Offers and the Latest News
OW2 aims to be a truly revamped experience of the first chapter’s formula. It brings back the beloved mix of survival mechanics and a fantasy world from the first game, where exploration and preparation will be at the core of the experience. It will offer:
- Improved Gameplay: The combat has received a major upgrade with more fluid movements, transitioning more naturally from dodge to roll and to attacks. Not to mention the return of spells to the center of the experience with actions and reagents. But also a variety of weapons that can be freely equipped in each hand.
- Choose Your Playstyle: Each weapon will have a unique moveset, and each armor will impact our mobility with resistance to damage and elements. There are also various tools and equipment that will help us during the adventure. Unlock new skills, upgrades, and new tools by progressing and facing the challenges of the world of Aurai.
- Starting Location and Traits: We will have the choice of 3 starting locations to begin from. Among the mountains of Tramontane, from the underground city of Haboob, or as a survivor of Simeon’s Bastion. We’ll also choose our character’s background and unique trait, which will offer different aptitudes, starting equipment, and dialogues.
Playable in Online Co-op or even in Split Screen mode. The team invites players to sign up to get a chance to try the game early in the upcoming Playtests. But above all, on September 17, they celebrated the fantastic milestone of the first game, which has reached an incredible 3 million players, almost 10 years after the Kickstarter campaign in April 2015.
