No Silksong On Game Pass Standard Yet, But Nine Sols Fills the Void Starting Today

Nine Sols is now available on Xbox Game Pass Standard, bringing its acclaimed 2D metroidvania action to all subscribers.

Tomorrow is a big day. Hollow Knight Silksong, one of the most-anticipated games this year, will officially release. And for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC members, it’s a grand day because they get to play it day-one at no additional cost. While Standard members will miss out (unless buying your own copy), another great game, often compared to Hollow Knight, has just entered the tier’s library.

Nine Sols Joins Xbox Game Pass Standard Today

Nine Sols is a highly-rated 2D metroidvania game which made its console debut, and straight to Game Pass, in November 2024. Being that it was a day-one launch, Standard members didn’t get to enjoy it then. But after nearly a year of missing out, it is finally available on all tiers.

Microsoft played it right with this one. With Silksong skipping Standard, adding Nine Sols to the said tier will fill its “spot”. Nine Sols and Hollow Knight are often compared to each other as both metroidvania have similar art styles and strong combat. Some even prefer Nine Sols. But it really depends on preference since Hollow Knight is stronger on world building, exploration, and lore, while Nine Sols is stronger on narrative, combat, and character-work.

It is not Silksong, yes, but it’s the closest to it that Xbox Game Pass Standard get to play for free. Nine Sols marks the second title in the recently announced Xbox Game Pass September lineup.

Nine Sols is a hand-drawn 2D action-platformer set in the striking Taopunk world of New Kunlun, where players guide the hero Yi on a quest to overthrow the nine ruling Sols. Blending fast, Sekiro-inspired combat with precise slashes, deflections, and charged attacks, the game challenges players against ancient guardians and monstrous foes while rewarding patience and strategy. As you traverse interconnected regions filled with secrets, lore, and diverse NPCs, you’ll gain new abilities, uncover hidden truths, and immerse yourself in a beautifully animated adventure.
