What is Moonlighter 2?
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is an action RPG featuring roguelite and shop simulation elements. Just like in the first installment, players control Will, who is simultaneously an adventurer and a merchant. Players enter various dungeons to battle numerous adversaries. Inside the dungeon, you acquire relics and other loot that must be organized within your backpack. Certain relics in your backpack interact with one another or risk destruction, requiring careful management. Afterward, you return with your loot to Tresna, where you sell the items in your own shop. The earned money is then reinvested into better equipment and shop upgrades.

Compared to its predecessor, there is a distinct visual shift away from the 2D pixel-art style toward a 3D isometric presentation. Nevertheless, the familiar and beloved mix of dungeon runs and shop management remains intact. Much of the game was already playable during Early Access, but the full release introduces crucial endgame content, additional systems, and the story conclusion. Moonlighter version 1.0 is now available, allowing you to jump straight into the action.
What changes with Moonlighter 2 Version 1.0?
Version 1.0 introduces new variants for the four main weapon types. The Endless Short Sword offers a more aggressive playstyle, as its special attack transforms into multiple rapid piercing hits. The number of strikes increases with the combo. The Endless Great Sword adopts a defensive approach, with its new special ability placing Will into a blocking stance. This increases sharpness and enables a powerful counterattack. The Endless Spear also receives a new weapon aspect featuring a risk-reward mechanic, consuming stored spearheads to temporarily turn normal attacks into enhanced special attacks. For the Endless Gauntlets, the berserk mode becomes more potent with a strong focus on highly aggressive gameplay.

Additionally, new equipment arrives, such as a machine gun gadget and new Endless Armour. Among other benefits, this armour increases critical strike chance and provides bonus critical damage based on equipped spark perks. Furthermore, version 1.0 allows players to upgrade their shop up to level 5, reaching the final tier with an extra bloblet slot for more cosmetic customization space. Dungeon runs receive a new combat perk branch called the Bomb Path, which lets you mark enemies with an explosive charge that detonates after sufficient hits, damaging surrounding foes and creating fresh synergies.
Version 1.0 of Moonlighter 2 also introduces Endless Vault VII as the new ultimate challenge, alongside a new Hardcore difficulty mode where players lose all relics upon death. New Endless Vault cosmetics and additional codex pages are included. New and returning merchants join the experience, featuring the new endgame merchant Spark. The friendly robot chest in your shop, known as K33P3R, can now also be upgraded to level 5. Finally, the story is now fully told through to its conclusion.
Is it worth jumping into Moonlighter 2 now?
The core gameplay loop was already present during Early Access, but version 1.0 delivers the complete package. For new players, this is the most optimal time to dive in, offering a complete narrative with expanded weaponry and builds compared to Early Access. Additionally, you get deeper endgame content and a dedicated hardcore mode. If you already played during Early Access, it is the ideal moment to continue your journey, as the new endgame content and the long-awaited story conclusion offer compelling reasons to return.
