Kromlech: Everything You Need to Know About the Steam Early Access Launch

Sharpen your steel and brace for the end of days, because the wait is almost over for one of 2026’s most atmospheric indie RPGs. Kromlech officially enters Steam Early Access on March 5, bringing a brutal, hand-crafted Celtic sandbox where the world literally unravels around you.

Kromlech: Everything you need to know about the Steam Early Access launch

The “Golden Age” is a distant memory, the gods have gone silent, and the very threads of reality are coming undone. This isn’t your typical power-fantasy RPG, but Kromlech, and it’s hitting Early Access on PC on March 5, 2026.

Developed by the Czech team at Perun Creative (the minds behind the cult-hit Hobo: Tough Life), Kromlech transports players to a gritty, Iron Age-inspired world of “swords & sorcery.”

You step into the boots of Cronach, a lone wanderer tasked with navigating a world-ending crisis. You have exactly 30 in-game days to explore, loot, and grow strong enough to face the final darkness.

Every moment you spend helping a village is a moment you aren’t hunting for ancient artifacts, and in a world this reactive, your indecision has a high cost.

Kromlech: A Gritty Celtic Odyssey in Early Access

Forget the high-fantasy glitter of modern RPGs, because Kromlech is a love letter to the early 2000s classics like Gothic, where steel is raw, and the gods are silent.

The world is a hand-crafted sandbox inspired by Iron Age Europe, where every hill and ruin feels like it was placed with purpose rather than generated by an algorithm.

The atmosphere is heavy. As you explore and perform actions, the world actually changes. You’ll hear it before you see it, the chirping of birds is replaced by a distorted, electronic hum as “otherworldly corruption” chokes the life out of the forest.

It’s a dark, gritty experience that doesn’t hold your hand, forcing you to rely on your blade and your wits to survive the world’s final month.

Kromlech and The 30-Day Crisis

The heart of the game is the Crisis System. Every few days, a major event, a Crisis, erupts somewhere in the realm. You have a limited window to deal with it.

If you fail or simply ignore it, you don’t just get a “Quest Failed” notification. You get a World Scar. These are permanent, physical changes to the map that make your life significantly harder, like settlements falling into ruin or enemies becoming more aggressive.

To fight back, you’ll need to master the RTL (Right-Torso-Left) combat system. It’s tactical and weighty. Instead of spamming a single attack button, you’re looking for gaps in enemy armor. See a gap on their left side? Swing there. It’s a dance of precision where one wrong move means you’re the one leaving a scar on the battlefield.

You can customize your build with warpaint, mystical brews, and “words of power” inscribed on your gear, but at the end of the day, your skill with the blade is what keeps the clock from hitting zero.

Because Kromlech is launching into Early Access on March 5, 2026, you’re essentially helping the devs at Perun Creative polish this gem. It will be in Early Access for roughly 12 months.

Is Kromlech Worth Your Time?

If you live for that “one more day” tension and love the idea of an RPG where your failures actually matter, you’ll find a lot to love here. It’s gritty, unforgiving, and deeply atmospheric. However, since it is an Early Access title, expect some rough edges.

Do you think you could save the world in just 30 days, or would you spend your final month hunting for legendary loot?
