Hollow Knight Silksong Launch Causes Multiple Games To Delay

Multiple game studios have delayed some September games in response to Hollow Knight Silksong’s release date.

Hollow Knight Silksong was undoubtedly one of the biggest titles in Gamescom 2025. It took so long for the game to get to where it is now and having followed a highly successful first game, many people were glued to the release date announcement a few days ago. And they were not just gamers but developers and publishers too as just from the hype of the game, releasing at the same time with Silksong might not be the best option. True enough, there are already game studios who announced they are moving their launch dates because of it.

 

Game Studios Shift Schedules to Avoid Silksong’s Release

Hollow Knight Silksong is officially launching on September 4th, 2025, after 7 years in development. And for most gamers, this was the highlight of Gamescom. The release date announcement on Team Cherry’s YT channel has now garnered more than 4 million views, and with just that, anyone can see that it is going to be a big launch.

And because of this, some game studios have now moved launch dates for their own games. To be fair, indie or not, it is a risky move to release alongside Silksong (or even just close to it).

One of these games is CloverPit which was initially scheduled to launch on September 3rd. As per their official announcement, it was Silksong that made them move the date to September 26th. Silksong being the “most anticipated and wishlisted game on all of Steam” would overshadow their game and not get its fair share of the spotlight.

Another one is the full release of Faeland. It was originally set for September 9th and also thought it wouldn’t get the attention it deserves if they went ahead with this date. Unlike CloverPit though, they have not announced a new launch date.

This is the same case for Aeterna Lucis. Although no specific launch date was ever announced, it was targeting a September 2025 launch. But after Silksong’s release date announcement, they knew they didn’t want to compete. As per their statement on X, they are now moving the game’s launch to 2026. To be fair, this gives them room to breathe. As per the same post, the devs acknowledge that they didn’t have all the dev kits to launch on all next-gen platforms yet. This delay would give them additional time to polish it and do a simultaneous release on all intended platforms.
