Xbox players will soon be able to play Helldivers 2 when it launches on Xbox in August. However, in a disappointing blow, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed it will not be available on Game Pass.

Arrowhead Game Studios recently confirmed that Helldivers 2 will release on Xbox, but it will be as a standalone purchase.

The game will be the first PlayStation-published title to launch on Microsoft’s console, and although it won’t be part of the Game Pass, it’s a significant milestone in what some believe to be the slow end of the console wars between Sony and Microsoft.

Helldivers 2’s Xbox Arrival — But Not on Game Pass

One of PlayStation’s most successful titles in recent years, Helldivers 2, is heading to Xbox on August 26, 2025. The third-person shooter is the company’s fastest-selling game, releasing on February 8, 2024, for PC and PS5, reaching an impressive 12 million sales in its first 12 weeks.

The release makes it the first PlayStation-published title on Xbox, and while hype is at a boiling point for the shooter’s launch, expectations have soured a little at the news it won’t launch on Xbox Game Pass.

Why It’s Not Coming to Game Pass

In a post on the game’s official Discord, Arrowhead community manager “Baskinator” confirmed Helldivers 2 will “definitely not” launch on Xbox Game Pass and that there are no plans for it to in the future.

There is no official word on why the game will not be part of Game Pass, but many will hope that it acts as a test for future PlayStation games, to see what success the company can have on Xbox with their first-party published titles. If all goes well, many will hope to see God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and more come to Microsoft’s console.
