Infinity Ward confirms Call of Duty 2022, which could be a Modern Warfare sequel after lackluster sales figures show Call of Duty: Vanguard fails to hit targets.

WHAT IS THE NEW CALL OF DUTY GAME?

With a new year comes a new Call of Duty video game, and 2022 is no different as CoD’s release cycle continues.

The Call of Duty franchise is rotated through three developer studios as Activision Blizzard meets their release schedules.

Last year, we saw Call of Duty: Vanguard, developed by Sledgehammer Games, with many finding it underwhelming.

Call of Duty: Vanguard had the lowest-performing launch for a CoD game in 14 years, with UK sales data suggesting sales for Vanguard dropped 40% compared to Black Ops Cold War.

Now it’s Infinity Ward’s turn again, and in a tweet, they confirmed a “new generation of Call of Duty is coming soon” before ending the tweet with, “Stay frosty.”

In their latest press release, Activision Blizzard acknowledges Infinity Ward’s new CoD.

In it, Activision Blizzard says they are “working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history” and goes on to promise “industry-leading innovation.”

At the moment, we don’t know what the storyline or new features Call of Duty 2022 will have, but leaks suggest a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare, as well as a new Call of Duty: Warzone.

IS CALL OF DUTY STILL RELEASING ON PLAYSTATION?

Since Microsoft announced they were acquiring Activision Blizzard, there has been concern that Call of Duty may be pulled from Sony’s platform and made an Xbox exclusive.

At the moment, however, there is no need to worry as Microsoft has confirmed that the Call of Duty franchise will remain on PlayStation until at least 2025.
