Microsoft could be about to release Halo on the PS5 for the first time if reports are to be believed.

Halo: Combat Evolved Coming to PS5

Is Halo Releasing on PS5?

Microsoft is gearing up for the Xbox Games Showcase at the end of this week, and it could be one of the best gaming events ever, as the company is reportedly working on a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster for the Xbox Series X|S, and it could be coming to PlayStation 5.

The stunning news comes from Tom Warren, who revealed in his blog post on The Verge that Microsoft plans to launch more of their exclusive games on other platforms as part of the company’s Project Latitude, which has seen Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves getting a PS5 release.

If the rumors are true, it would be a seismic moment in gaming, as the Halo franchise has been the spearhead of the Xbox family of consoles since the original Halo launched in 2001. If it does happen, it’ll also be interesting to see how Sony and Microsoft treat so-called “exclusive” titles as more and more games end up across multiple platforms. Is it worth buying a particular console anymore when exclusives eventually end up multiplatform?

Many may point out that Halo: Combat Evolved is already a remaster in the Anniversary edition and is available as part of The Master Chief Collection on Xbox and PC. Whether we get the entire collection or yet another Halo CE remaster, only time will tell, as Warren says it’s currently in “early development.” We may get answers this Sunday when the Xbox Games Showcase goes live at 7pm CEST.
