EA Sports skips a full F1 26 release, making it a paid F1 25 expansion, as the franchise undergoes a major reset ahead of a reimagined 2027 return.
With 2025 coming to an end, many racing fans are on the lookout for the next installment in the EA Sports F1 series. Unfortunately/fortunately, whichever way you see it, EA Sports is skipping F1 26. Instead of a full game, it will now be a paid expansion for F1 25 as EA Sports restarts the series for its 2027 return.
EA Sports F1 26 is a Paid Expansion for F1 25
While it’s not an actual cancellation, EA Sports technically cancels the F1 26 entry. In an official announcement, the series will skip a full game for the 2026 season and will reset the franchise for its return the following year.
However, this doesn’t mean there is no new content for next year. The 2026 season will still be released but as a paid expansion for F1 25. This premium update will bring new cars, teams, drivers, and regulations to reflect next year’s season.

EA SPORTS will release a paid expansion for #F125 in 2026, with the current game serving as the foundation for the 2026 season.
Additionally, 2027 will see the release of a new, reimagined EA SPORTS F1 title, that looks, feels, and plays differently.

According to EA, this decision is part of a strategic reset for the franchise. Upon its return, a “new game will be released that looks, feels, and plays differently, delivering more gameplay choices.” Lee Mather, Senior Creative Director at Codemasters, says, “We’re fully committed to the EA SPORTS F1 franchise. Our multi-year plan extends this year’s excitement with the 2026 expansion and reimagines the F1 experience for 2027 to deliver even more for players at every level around the world.”
So those holding off to get F1 25 to maybe buy the newer one, this is the sign that you shouldn’t wait anymore. It’s also a good time to do so as season 4 is out which introduces a new Survival Challenge mode.
F1 25 officially launched on May 30, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is currently not on Game Pass or PS Plus, but a 5-hour game trial is available for all EA Play and Game Pass Ultimate members.

F1 24 vs F1 25: Price Analysis and Buying Guide
I can’t believe it, they are gonna make what I've been telling all this time, that charging yearly for a new game just for the new cars, drivers and teams was abusive. Hope they make it a 2 year cycle and don’t make players buy a whole new game every year. Another matter is how expensive that DLC is gonna be but we will see…
