Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is the long-awaited next entry in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series. Releasing 16 years after the last game, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero comes to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 11. Pre-orders include early access and exclusive bonuses.

The Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero release date is October 11, 2024. Hype is growing for Bandai Namco’s upcoming fighting game, with those most eagerly anticipating its launch pre-ordering it to get early access from October 7. The game will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Steam. It may come to Xbox Game Pass, but Bandai Namco is yet to confirm if and when it will be available on Microsoft’s subscription service. Pre-orders are live now, and by doing so, you get three days of early access, six early unlock characters, and a so-far unannounced exclusive playable character.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Gameplay and Characters

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero gameplay stays faithful to the Budokai Tenkaichi series with high-speed 3D battles and destructible environments. Those who played Budokai Tenkaichi will be pleased that this game is somewhat a reboot of the series and using the original name it was given in Japan when the first game released in 2005.

In total there are 164 characters announced for launch. That includes the base characters and all their variants. Characters are able to transform during battles, increasing their strength, giving them new movesets, and unlocking signature moves. Fans are also hoping to see Tori-Bot, the alter ego of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, who sadly passed away on March 1, 2024.

Players can expect two main modes. Episode Battle is where players can relive the most epic moments from Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super from the point of view of eight characters, including Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, and Piccolo. Players can also make choices and alter the story from the anime with their actions. Custom Battle is where players can experience original moments and find cutscenes that pop up during battles. Edit Mode allows the customization of what characters are involved and the changing of the pre and post-battle cutscenes, making for unique situations. These can then be uploaded and shared with the community.

Bandai Namco has focused on delivering an unforgettable single-player experience that fans of the manga and anime will absolutely love. There is, however, also multiplayer. Local multiplayer allows two fighters to compete against one another in split-screen, restricted to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. The Online multiplayer offers more maps, tournament modes, and a variety of victory conditions.
