Dead Take is a psychological horror title that combines live-action video clips with interactive gameplay. The game also offers a dense thriller atmosphere. It is developed by Surgent Studios, who have already made a name for themselves in the indie scene with innovative projects.

The story takes you to a luxurious villa in the Hollywood Hills. What starts as a seemingly harmless film party quickly turns into your personal nightmare. One of the actors disappears, and an intense investigation begins where every decision has consequences.

What is Dead Take? – Setting & Gameplay

In Dead Take, you step into the role of the actor Willie. During a glamorous party, a friend of Willie goes missing. This starts a search for him in the large, luxurious villa in the Hollywood Hills. The gameplay includes puzzle elements, found-footage storytelling, and psychological horror. The game also frequently shows live-action clips, creating an even darker atmosphere. Additionally, the decisions you make will impact the rest of the game. Not much more is known about the gameplay yet, but more information will follow soon.

Confirmed Cast – “Voices” with Experience

From the latest teaser, we know that Ben Starr and Neil Newbon will play the main roles in the game. Ben plays Vinny Monroe, and Neil plays Chase Lowry. But there is a plot twist: both are Willie. Neil Newbon is known from Baldur’s Gate 3 and Resident Evil Village, while Ben Starr is known from Final Fantasy XVI and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Both bring experience in award-winning RPGs. In 2023, Newbon even won at the Game Awards, and Starr was nominated for Final Fantasy XVI. Creative Director Abubakar Salim emphasizes how the actors incorporated personal experiences into their roles.

Release Timeline, Platforms & Trailer

Dead Take is planned for release later in 2025, but there is no exact release date or window yet. The game is set to release on PC via Steam. So far, there have been three teasers for the game. The first two teasers showed us a glimpse of the mansion, and the latest one introduced the main cast. Unfortunately, we still have to wait for actual gameplay and to see how the live-action scenes are integrated into the game.
