Table Top Entertainment has announced Dark Craft, “the first MMORPG in the Souls-like genre.” The game will launch on PC and will feature a free-to-play model.

Billed as the first Souls-like MMO, developer Table Top Entertainment is taking a bold gamble by mashing up two opposite ends of the spectrum.
Coming soon to PC, the game steps away from the hyper-realistic visuals of recent MMOs, instead featuring a cubic art style similar to Minecraft, complete with ruined castles, grim dungeons, and atmospheric lighting that brings the dark world to life.
Dark Craft is Free-to-Play on Steam
The MMO genre is expensive for new players to get into and veteran players to keep up with, employing steep subscription prices and aggressive microtransactions. Fortunately, Table Top Entertainment is opening up the game to everyone by launching Dark Craft as a free-to-play title on Steam.
With this free-to-play model, there are no barriers to entry, allowing everyone to download and experience this unique blend of MMO and Souls-like gameplay at no cost. Players can enjoy all the game’s features, including raids, character progression, and challenges.
Dark Craft’s Steam page mentions “in-app purchases,” which will raise concerns among fans about the usual Pay-to-Win mechanics many F2P MMOs integrate.
Selling cosmetics is one thing, but selling powerful weapons or gear makes the Souls-like part of the game fall apart immediately.
Dark Craft Features Dynamic Worlds and Game Masters
Beyond the tactical combat and hardcore action, the most interesting feature is Dark Craft’s “Living World.” The developers state that “Game Masters” (real players) can “directly intervene in gameplay,” commanding armies, setting up ambushes, issuing quests, triggering events, and even playing as world bosses.
This unique system will create a dynamic, unpredictable, and dangerous world where a GM could cause chaos by dropping a dragon on your head or giving you a quest that truly makes you feel like part of a living world. It’s an interesting concept that would set the MMO apart from others in the genre.
Verdict: Is Dark Craft Worth The Hype?
While the trailer does make me curious about a Minecraft meets Dark Souls MMO, which by the way, looks a little too AI-generated, the free-to-play model does at least make me want to try Dark Craft when it launches. What do you think? Is a voxel Souls-like a stroke of genius from Table Top Entertainment or a disaster waiting to happen? Let us know in the comments.
