Dancing with Ghosts is the new narrative adventure in development from the team at HumaNature. A development team founded in 2006 by Greg Johnson, the game designer known for the Starflight and ToeJam & Earl series. They brought us the new ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove in 2019 after a long development and a Kickstarter campaign.

The team also more recently brought us the cute and colorful Kimono Cats. Released on 14 August 2025, it’s an adventure where we explore the festivals of old Japan. Dancing with Ghosts: HumaNature’s New Adventure Announced

Following the launch of Kimono Cats on 14 August 2025, the HumaNature team led by Greg Johnson announces Dancing with Ghosts. A new narrative adventure in which we’ll follow the young Thai girl Mai, who meets the ghost of a little girl.

Discovering an emotional journey in which the young girl will overcome the trauma of her parents’ death. With a strong emotional message, between the concept of life and death, acceptance, and also empathy. The game has a Kickstarter Campaign coming in October, and is confirmed for PC and Nintendo Switch.

Dancing with Ghosts: The Development Story and Message

The new title from HumaNature is a game with a strong emotional side. It was particularly conceived from the personal experience of Greg Johnson himself. Initially titled Thai River and in development as early as early 2023. But the project was halted due to the tragic event of the August 2023 fire in Lahaina, Hawaii.

An event where Greg and his wife escaped the fire that engulfed their town and home. This happened after the loss of their 28-year-old daughter the previous year. An experience that deeply marked the designer, and together with his team, he wants to offer a game with a powerful message. Where the meeting of Mai and the little ghost girl will mark an important life lesson for the protagonist.
