Activision announced that they are stopping the back-to-back release of Modern Warfare and Black Ops games. A BO7 free trial is also set next week.

Call of Duty officially announces that they will no longer have back-to-back releases of Modern Warfare and Black Ops games, citing their commitment to ensure a unique experience every release. Alongside the announcement, the team also shared that Black Ops 7 will host a free trial for Multiplayer and Zombies.

Call of Duty Stop Back-to-Back Releases of Games

Activision has finally listened to its fans not to release a yearly Call of Duty game. This sentiment has been circulating for God knows how long but it felt like it was falling on deaf ears. So now, it took a high-budget Black Ops 7 launch to realize why and where the community is coming from.

It doesn’t take a veteran to know that the quality of COD games have gone down dramatically over the years. BO7 was a main bet to get more fans back in the franchise since technically, it is the spiritual successor of one of, if not, the best Black Ops game there is, BO2. However, apart from being just a satisfactory game, it got put in the backseat with the release of what many would consider a superior game/entry, Battlefield 6.

Let’s also be real, when COD started the out-of-place skins, it can only go downhill from there. Plus, they overdid it with the annual release strategy.

But like all mistakes, this can also be fixed. Activision is now committed to making better games, rather than a “deadline” game to make their annual targets. With this approach too, they can further build Black Ops 7 into a better game, worthy of the franchise. Focusing on their season updates, that is possible.

The announcement also mentioned that Call of Duty will be hosting a free trial with a Double XP weekend, next week. Everyone who wants to give the Black Ops 7 Multiplayer and Zombie a try, can do so for free.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 officially launched on November 14, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It was also a day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate and PC tiers.
