Final Fantasy 13 is an action JRPG developed by Square Enix, the thirteenth game in the mainline series. A deepening crisis threatens to plunge the floating world of cocoon into chaos, and a band of human strangers find themselves branded enemies of the state. Join them on a desperate quest to challenge the forces controlling their fate and prevent untold destruction.

• Command Synergy Battle is the battle system for Final Fantasy 13 players control one character and issue commands from a menu to fill their ATB gauges, with the computer controlling the other two party members.
• The Crystarium system can be used to purchase stat boosts, spells, and other abilities for your characters. The skills you learn affect what other skills you can have learning Fire, for example, opens a skill path that leads to Fira and other spells.
• Each character has eight base weapons, most of which can be found, and all of which can be purchased at Retail Network. The base weapons can be upgraded to a unique second stage, and eventually to their third and ultimate stage.

Regardless of these issues, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII’s PC port is a solid one that only enhances the conclusion to the Fabula Nova Crystallis finale. It may be one step forward and two steps back in the overall Final Fantasy XIII series, but it is still an attractive package.

Final Fantasy XIII is likely to divide players with elements that can just as easily be liked as disliked. After ingesting the entirety of the game, however, one is unlikely to enjoy every aspect of the experience, likely to find something to hate, slightly less likely to find something to love, and almost certain to feel slightly ill about the future of Japanese RPGs.
