Deck of Haunts is a roguelike deckbuilder with base-building elements developed by Mantis. Step into the shoes of a sinister Haunted House, the walls whisper secrets, and the terror lurks around every corner. Your goal as the master of his house is to ensnare daring humans, play on their fears, and drain their very essence to expand your dark influence. During the day, design and upgrade your house, turning it into a death trap. But as night falls, lure unwitting explorers into your home, where you’ll use a deck of terrifying cards to summon spirits, shift hallways, and unleash spine-chilling horrors.

• Unlock and collect cards as you progress through the game, expanding your deck to include tools of terror like bone-chilling screams, phantoms, creaking floors, and shifting walls.
• Protect your heart room! Strategically place rooms to protect where your power is most concentrated. Make a maze filled with traps, scares, and unique twists, all tailored to frighten and confuse your visitors. Then leverage special rooms to enhance your hauntings.
• Increase the tension by playing haunt cards directly on visitors and within different rooms. Slowly drive them to insanity. Once their fear reaches critical levels, use the right haunts to push them to the brink of madness.
• Once they are sufficiently mad with fear, extract their essence to grow your mansion. Use it to unlock new rooms, expand your haunting powers, and attract more dangerous and rewarding targets.

A haunted deck that’s as likely to throw you a royal flush as it is sell you down the river, Deck of Haunts satisfies in its creative cards, wickedly evil fantasy power trip and a delightfully vile concept. Its best demonic forces are kept at bay thanks to a lack of real campaign or structure and some underdeveloped room expansion. Even so, if this were a haunted house at Universal Studios, you’d be disappointed to miss it, even if it’s not the main attraction.

Deck of Haunts is a quick and fun deck-building roguelike. Building out the haunted house is the most fun part. Just know that this is also one of those games where you will be at the mercy of the RNG, where failing to get a specific card you need to save your run may lead to your demise.

Gaming Nexus

The title’s biggest issue is the limited meta-progression. Players unlock new cards when they finish a run but, after winning a few, the motivation to start over diminishes. Deck of Haunts has good ideas and good execution but might struggle to hold the players’ attention in the long term.
