About Cult of the Lamb
Cult of the Lamb is a game about starting your very own cult, a combination of different part action roguelike and part base building with survival mechanics thrown in there as well developed by Massive Monster. You are but a lamb, but everything changed since you were saved from annihilation by an ominous stranger, his price for saving your soul is to start a religious order and garner a following and worship in his name, in a land full of false prophets and non-believers, spread your word and become the one true cult.
- In order to build your flock, you must have a functional base of operations, collect and use resources to build new structures, perform dark rituals to win favor from your dark god, and give sermons to your flock to reinforce their faith.
- The world itself will be randomly generated, the fight hordes of enemies and rival religious leaders to absorb their power and follow to your own, and assert your dark god’s dominance.
- You will not be able to do it all alone in order to spread the word you must train your flock on the ways of the faith as you focus more on exploring the five mysterious regions, scouring them off nonbelievers, and performing rituals to ascend you further to godhood.
Cult of the Lamb Reviews
Unless you’re a well-meaning-yet-misguided parent from the 80s who magically found themselves transported to the year 2022 (in which case there are other things I would be worrying about), you really have zero reason not to play this game. Cult of the Lamb is the evil-worshipping, cult-building, god-slaying video game with a perfect creepy-cute aesthetic that I never knew that I wanted—and I’m so incredibly glad that it exists.
Hey Poor Player
Cult of the Lamb is perfect example of an innovative indie that proclaims to be one genre, but assumes multiple identities and delivers. The game’s charming yet disturbing theme lends you freedom to play as you want, and have your actions make sense on the lore-front. Yes, this roguelite is most likely the easiest and most accessible compared to its competitors, but that accessibility comes at a cost of some gameplay, like combat, lacking depth and complexity for genre veterans.
Digital Chumps
For a mish-mash of genres, Cult of the Lamb does an excellent job of making both parts feel significant and dependent on each other. It's gorgeous, rewarding and made me laugh throughout. As your cult progresses and you move on from cleaning up everyone's poop, you will see your followers flourish. Designing and maintaining your base is excellent and I enjoyed the rogue-lite runs that can be completed in easily in under 15 minutes. Highly recommended, cult-based, rogue-lite shenanigans.
