Asterfel is an upcoming third-person action RPG from the German developer Mysteria Studio. The game draws heavy inspiration from early 2000s RPGs, with the Gothic franchise and the early Witcher titles being major influences.

In the game, you take on the role of a shipwreck survivor who arrives on the island of Asterfel, ruled by a king. Here, you can shape your own destiny, interact with people, embark on adventurous quests, and learn more about the three major factions. Will you help the island overcome its problems, or is the end of the world inevitable?

The World of Asterfel – Setting & Story

The island of Asterfel is being exploited by the king, who seeks to extract more and more magic from the mines. But his workers dug too deep, awakening mutated creatures and even rousing an ancient god from its slumber. This made the island’s nature and magic unpredictable, causing the dead to rise from their graves seeking vengeance.

You arrive on the island alone, without ties to anyone. That means you can choose your own path, with many options open to you. The game world is an open world filled with ruins, jungles, mountains, and cursed zones. The atmosphere is dark, mystical, and full of secrets – very reminiscent of a Gothic vibe.

Factions & Choices

The game revolves around three central factions. You can join them, and even align with multiple factions, so no need to worry. Each faction offers missions that influence the course of the game. Your decisions in quests change future missions and relationships with characters all the way to the end of the game. This makes the game highly replayable, ensuring it never gets boring.

The three factions are:

• Crown Wardens – Loyal to the king, they fight for him with classic weapons like swords, shields, spears, and more.

• Kindred – A group of rebels, specifically oppressed workers rising up to overthrow their king.

• Scholars – Mages who study the consequences of unleashed magic, carving out their place in the world with powerful spells.

Asterfel Gameplay & Release

The combat system blends melee combat, bows, and magical runes. You can freely combine these three combat styles. With magical runes, you gain the ability to cast spells. But beware – the world is dangerous, and it grows even more perilous the deeper you venture.

The focus is on exploration, choices you make along the way, and bringing back that classic 2000s RPG feeling. The game recently launched its Steam store page. Currently, it is listed as Coming Soon, meaning there’s no set release date yet. However, you can already add it to your wishlist or check back often for the latest gaming news.
