007 First Light Breaks IO Interactive Sales Records
IO Interactive has struck gold with its unique take on the iconic British spy. The studio recently announced that 007 First Light reached an impressive 1.5 million copies sold in its first 24 hours on the market. A number that has already grown to over 2 Million a few days after.
Making it the fastest-selling game in the developer’s history, easily outpacing the initial launch numbers of their acclaimed Hitman trilogy. While IO Interactive self-published the current title, this massive commercial success marks a definitive turning point for the franchise’s publishing future.
Will IO Interactive Develop the Next James Bond Game?
It remains uncertain if IO Interactive will develop the next James Bond game. Because Amazon acquired MGM after IO Interactive secured the rights for First Light, future sequels will be officially handled by MGM and Amazon Game Studios. IO Interactive’s future involvement has not been officially confirmed.
Speaking directly to Polygon, Amazon Gaming General Manager Jeff Gattis clarified the corporate structure behind the current release. He noted that Amazon only holds a stake in the current game through their recent IP ownership.
“We did not [make First Light],” Gattis explained to the publication. He emphasized that the acquisition of the intellectual property occurred long after the initial deal with IO Interactive was completely finalized.
Statement that caused worries among fans, but Amazon Game Studios reached out to Video Games Chronicle to confirm that they are satisfied with the studio work on First Light. And are more than likely interested in working together for the future releases.

Amazon’s Multimedia Strategy for the 007 Franchise
Bringing the James Bond franchise in-house aligns with Amazon’s broader corporate strategy to unify its entertainment divisions. The company is actively working to blur the lines between video games, television shows, and theatrical releases.
Gattis highlighted this approach by referencing their upcoming Tomb Raider television series on Prime Video, which is specifically designed to sit directly alongside new gaming projects. The primary goal is to capitalize on owned properties across multiple mediums simultaneously.
While Amazon Games has historically struggled to find a massive audience with original internal titles, leveraging established legacy properties provides a distinct advantage. Integrating massive franchises like James Bond into their ecosystem could finally secure the company a solid foothold in the AAA gaming space. Especially if they, as stated, will work closely with IO Interactive while giving the studio enough freedom in the development process.
