BlizzCon has just come to a close, but for WoW fans, the excitement is only just beginning. Today marks the launch of the first beta for WoW Forever, a third permanent variant of the game. Unveiled only days ago at BlizzCon 2026, it is scheduled to release on November 4 and 5. Access to the game will be included with a standard WoW subscription. Players will return to the original Azeroth, enriched with a brand-new storyline, new zones, quests, dungeons, and more.

- World of Warcraft: Forever enters beta on September 17 and officially launches in early November.
- Guaranteed beta access is available through the Skyborne Epic Pack for €59.99 or the Warcraft Forever Collection for €79.99.
- Releasing on November 5, WoW Forever permanently expands Vanilla Azeroth with over 1,000 new quests, new zones, nine dungeons, and new raids.
WoW Forever Beta Launches Today
The beta for WoW Forever begins today, September 17, 2026. Blizzard kicks off the evening with a live Q&A session, starting at 19:00 CEST for WoW: Midnight, followed by WoW Forever at 19:30 CEST.
The official World of Warcraft account has confirmed that the Forever beta will go live immediately after the Q&A. While there is no exact end time for the broadcast, the stream is expected to run for 30 to 60 minutes. According to Blizzard, the testing phase will run from September 17 to October 21 PST.
Who Gets Access?
Guaranteed entry to the WoW Forever beta is only granted to those who purchase the Skyborne Epic Pack for €59.99 or the Warcraft Forever Collection for €79.99. The lower-tier Skyborne Heroic Pack does not include guaranteed beta access. Alongside testing privileges, these editions offer additional in-game perks. However, players can also attempt to secure access for free, though this depends entirely on luck.
How to Get Free Access to the WoW Forever Beta
Beyond the paid editions, Blizzard provides a free beta opt-in route. Players must log in with their Battle.net account and navigate to the official WoW Forever page. From there, select the beta opt-in option to register the account.
Purchasing a Forever bundle is not required. However, opting in does not guarantee entry; your account is simply added to the candidate pool. Blizzard will invite more participants throughout the testing phase. With some luck, you may receive access right at launch, or after several days or weeks. Some applicants may not receive an invite at all, as Blizzard has not disclosed the total number of testers being selected.
If chosen, access is automatically unlocked on your Battle.net account. You should monitor your launcher periodically, where a dedicated WoW Forever Beta option will appear. In addition, keep an eye on the email address associated with your Battle.net profile.

| Access Route | Cost | Guaranteed Beta? |
|---|---|---|
| Blizzard Beta Opt-In | Free | No |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | Paid | Yes |

What Is WoW Forever? Classic Azeroth Continues to Expand
World of Warcraft: Forever represents a new permanent branch of WoW alongside Modern WoW and WoW Classic. In essence, it delivers what many players have long requested: a true Classic+ experience. Using the original Azeroth as its foundation, the world is further developed with entirely new content. Chronologically, Forever is set after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and prior to the events surrounding the Molten Core.
Characters begin their journey at Level 1, with the level cap fixed permanently at 60. Instead of raising the ceiling with every expansion, Blizzard intends to broaden the existing world horizontally. Foundational Classic design principles remain intact, including the absence of flying mounts and the lack of level scaling. Leveling remains a core focus of the experience, emphasizing exploration, party formation, and community interaction.

Rather than simply rehashing Vanilla quest lines, WoW Forever introduces a predominantly new narrative. Blizzard is implementing more than 1,000 new quests across the Level 1 to 60 leveling path. These objectives expand previously underutilized or inaccessible areas of Azeroth. A primary highlight is Mount Hyjal, which players can fully explore for the first time in WoW Forever. Key new and overhauled territories include:
- Zephras Island – The new starting zone for the Skyborne
- Hyjal – Showcasing the direct aftermath of Archimonde’s defeat
- Shen’dralas – A fresh narrative centering on the Shen’dralar, Eldre’Thalas, Dire Maul, and the centaurs
- Riverlands – An entirely new frontier featuring waterways, grasslands, and major trade routes
The Riverlands alone features more than 150 quests spanning levels 35 to 45. Furthermore, the expansion introduces a brand-new playable race, the Skyborne. They feature bespoke racial abilities, voice acting, dances, visual customization options, and unique druid forms. At launch, six new race-and-class combinations also become available:
- Gnome Priest
- Human Hunter
- Dwarf Shaman
- Orc Mage
- Troll Warlock
- Undead Paladin
WoW Forever Brings Fresh Energy to Classic Azeroth
With WoW Forever, Blizzard is not merely re-releasing legacy content, but actively evolving the classic World of Warcraft framework. The familiar landscape of Azeroth serves as the base, substantially expanded through new zones, over 1,000 quests, additional dungeons, raids, and the Skyborne race. Core Vanilla design pillars, such as the Level 60 cap, ground-only travel, and an emphasis on group progression, remain fully preserved.
The viability of this Classic+ model will be evaluated by early beta participants starting today. Players who prefer not to buy guaranteed access can rely on the free opt-in system. Blizzard has several weeks leading up to the November 5 release to collect player feedback and prepare WoW Forever for its permanent rollout.
