Colonel John R. Blade returns to fight SinTEK Industries in Nightdive Studios
Key Takeaways
  • Nightdive Studios has released a free playable PC demo for SiN Reloaded on Steam alongside a new gameplay trailer highlighting visual and mechanical updates.
  • The remaster includes the original 1998 shooter and the Wages of SiN expansion pack, running up to 4K resolution at 144 FPS on the KEX Engine.
  • The full release is scheduled for late 2026 across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

The Return of a 1998 Cult Classic

Nightdive Studios has officially brought Ritual Entertainment’s 1998 first-person shooter back into the spotlight. SiN Reloaded was originally announced in 2020, but the studio placed it on hold in 2023 to focus on other time-critical releases.

Now, the development team has reignited the project, releasing a free demo on Steam. The remaster utilizes the proprietary cross-platform KEX Engine to modernize the framework of a game that famously pushed the original Quake II engine to its limits.

Nightdive Studios promises a comprehensive visual upgrade without losing the stylistic identity of the 90s original. Players can expect high-definition textures, updated 3D models, improved anti-aliasing, and entirely overhauled 2D menu screens.

For purists who prefer the original aesthetic, Nightdive has included a feature to seamlessly swap between the newly remastered graphics and the classic SiN Gold version visuals.

What Changes Are Included in the SiN: Reloaded Demo Update?

The initial update for the SiN: Reloaded demo addresses non-Steam Input gyroscope path issues, ensuring correct yaw and roll mechanics. It also fixes inverted gyro turns, adds missing gyro options, and resolves missing high-resolution lightmaps and clipping bugs in the “Something of a Paradox” map.

The developers have moved quickly to refine the playable build based on early player data. According to the official Steam patch notes, the update also fixes minor UI typos and an unusual bug in the Missile Silo map where a medic would inadvertently heal the floor instead of a fallen patient.

These rapid adjustments indicate Nightdive’s commitment to polishing the control schemes and modernizing the user interface ahead of the game’s full retail launch.

Preserving the Roots of Freeport

Set in the dystopian future megacity of Freeport, the narrative follows Colonel John R. Blade. As a security consultant, Blade tracks a DNA-altering drug distributed by Doctor Elexis Sinclaire and her shadowy corporation, SinTEK Industries.

The original title was lauded for its high level of environmental interactivity, and the remaster retains these complex systems. Players can hack DOS-style computer terminals, operate security cameras, and drive vehicles ranging from forklifts to helicopters.

The game also features area-specific damage and the tactical ability to shoot weapons directly out of enemy hands. These branching systems ensure that player actions carry immediate consequences within the level design.

The complete package will launch with the base game, the Wages of SiN expansion pack, and newly implemented achievements when it releases on PC, Nintendo Switch, and current and last-generation PlayStation and Xbox hardware later this year.
