Sega is reviving its iconic arcade racing franchise, and players now have a chance to get behind the wheel early. The publisher has officially opened registrations for the Crazy Taxi: World Tour multiplayer test, scheduled for mid-September.

What is the Crazy Taxi: World Tour Closed Network Test?

The Crazy Taxi: World Tour Closed Network Test is a technical trial running from September 11 at 5:00 PM PT to September 13 at 5:00 PM PT. It is designed to evaluate server infrastructure and multiplayer stability on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Sega has clarified that this is a work-in-progress build. The primary goal is to gather data on the competitive matchmaking framework ahead of the game’s targeted 2027 launch. Selected participants will be notified by email after the registration period closes.

According to the official Sega announcement, selection is not guaranteed. The developer may prioritize users who actively participate in designated community engagement activities on the official Discord server, though random selection will also be utilized.

Playable Modes and Available Content

Leaving the traditional solo arcade experience for the final release, this test focuses entirely on competitive online interactions. Players will have access to six vehicles, four characters, and various tune-up options to customize their hardware.

The test features two distinct modes. In Pickup Race, up to six players compete to drop off passengers and earn the highest fare within a strict time limit. Cops ‘N’ Cabbies divides players into two teams of three for competitive, objective-based driving.

Both modes are playable on the newly revealed West Coast map. Staying true to the franchise’s legacy of real-world brand integration, the environments will feature officially licensed locations like IHOP and Amoeba Music.

How to Register for the Technical Test

Players interested in participating must complete their application before August 31 at 11:59 PM PT. The registration process requires an active Sega account linked to the user’s preferred platform network.

The test supports cross-play across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam or the Xbox app. Sega requires all applicants to be at least 13 years old and reside in one of the supported global regions.

Single-player campaigns and story modes are completely disabled for this phase. Sega has also confirmed that progress, currency, and save data will not carry over to the retail version when the game officially releases.
