No Tier Is Safe as New PlayStation Plus Pricing Goes Live

Sony rolls out its price hike to all PlayStation Plus monthly and quarterly tiers, impacting Essential, Extra, and Premium subscribers.

New PlayStation Plus Prices 2026
Key Takeaways
  • All Tiers Affected: The May 20, 2026 price increase applies to 1-month and 3-month plans across PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium tiers.
  • Annual Plans Spared: Long-term subscribers on 12-month plans will not experience a price hike during this rollout.
  • New Base Pricing: Monthly rates have risen by $1 to $2 depending on the tier, with price increases applied immediately to new customers.

Just as everyone thought that the Playstation Plus price hike announced a couple of days ago was only for the Essential tier, Sony has now pushed live new prices for all three tiers. It’s not by a lot but since we’re already starting at a premium price for a gaming subscription, this new cost hurts everyone’s wallets.

PlayStation Plus Price Increase 2026 is For All Tiers

While Xbox Game Pass members are rejoicing at the recent price reduction for Ultimate, Sony had other plans for Playstation Plus. On a post on its official X account, PS Plus prices are going up for new customers effective May 20. Of course if you have a current subscription it doesn’t affect you right away but these prices will be waiting for you at the end, one way or another.

The announcement stated that the 1-month and the 3-month subscription plans will be adjusted due to “ongoing market conditions.” And since the prices on the post reflected Essential tier’s, everyone thought Extra and Premium were spared. But as the changes were implemented, it became clear that they weren’t.

So if you’re getting a new PS Plus subscription starting today, you’ll have to pay these accordingly:

  • 1-Month:
    • Essential $10.99 (from $9.99)
    • Extra $16.99 (from $14.99)
    • Premium $19.99 (from $17.99)
  • 3-Months:
    • Essential $27.99 (from $24.99)
    • Extra $43.99 (from $39.99)
    • Premium $54.99 (from $49.99)

Fortunately for those on annual plans, there will be no price increase. But let’s face it, if you’re already paying that much lump sum, you can expect Sony to give more breathing room. Just a breather since a price increase on pretty much everything these days is inevitable due to “ongoing market conditions.”

If it’s any consolation for some folks, at least the price increase wasn’t much. There are reports saying that the price hike in Turkey is 30%.

With these new prices, are you willing to go for the annual plan or skip PS Plus entirely?
