Hideo Kojima reveals new details about the development of his upcoming horror title, OD

Hideo Kojima admits his new horror game, OD, is proving to be a massive challenge. Unlike his previous hits, this project requires rebuilding his creation process “from the ground up.” With cryptic trailers and a star-studded cast, the creator of Metal Gear Solid confesses he isn’t even sure if the experimental concept “will work out” just yet.

Learn more on the surprising reveal of OD!

OD: A Development Process Built from Scratch

Creating something truly new is never easy, even for an industry veteran like Hideo Kojima. The developer recently revealed that OD is difficult to make because it deviates from his standard formula.

According to Kojima, previous titles like Death Stranding or his stealth games were unique, but they still shared similar systems with other games. OD is different.

He explained to ananweb (via Automaton) that this time, they are trying to change the service model entirely. This fundamental shift makes the development process “quite challenging.” “I can’t say exactly what it is yet, nor do I know if it will work out,” Kojima admitted.

The Spiritual Successor to P.T.

For horror fans, the excitement around OD stems largely from the legacy of P.T. This “Playable Trailer” was a terrifying teaser for the cancelled Silent Hills project.

Despite being scrubbed from the PlayStation Network following Kojima’s painful public split with Konami in 2015, P.T. remains a cult classic. It is widely considered one of the scariest experiences in gaming history.

OD appears to pick up that torch. The atmosphere and the focus on pure terror suggest it is a spiritual successor to that lost project.

Kojima hinted that the latest trailer is packed with clues for eagle-eyed fans. “We’ve packed the trailer full of hints, so if you keep thinking about it, you might figure it out,” he teased.

OD Cast Details: Hollywood Talent Confirmed

The game isn’t just relying on atmosphere; it has serious star power attached to it. The project features a cast of recognizable Hollywood talent.

Confirmed actors include:

  • Sophia Lillis (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves)
  • Udo Kier (Hunters)
  • Hunter Schafer (Euphoria)

The trailer already showcases Lillis in a spooky house, encountering a malevolent figure. It sets a tone that aligns perfectly with Kojima’s history of cinematic storytelling.

The Matrix Game That Never Was

In related news, reports recently surfaced claiming the Wachowskis once wanted Kojima to design a Matrix video game. According to a former Konami executive, the directors were big fans and requested a meeting.

The report alleged that Konami turned down the pitch. However, Kojima quickly responded to these rumors with surprise.

He insisted that “no one ever told me such a conversation had taken place.” Whether the pitch happened behind closed doors without his knowledge remains a mystery.

In Conclusion

With OD, Hideo Kojima is once again stepping into the unknown. While the development sounds risky and experimental, that is usually when Kojima is at his best.

Do you think OD will finally fill the void left by Silent Hills? Let us know your theories in the comments below!
