Helldivers 2 PC Installation Size Is Now Down To 23GB
Helldivers 2 file size reduced by 85%. The latest Steam patch allows players to download a slim version of 23GB only.
Helldivers 2 PC launch, although was able to pull in some numbers, didn’t do quite well with customer satisfaction. It was riddled with performance and technical issues that even caused the devs to delay new content in order to fix the PC version first (ahem, a particular Monster game). While patches are regularly being released to address this, it also made the game balloon in size. Fortunately, that’s been taken care of now.
Helldivers 2 PC File Size Down to 23GB
After increasing frustration, Arrowhead Game Studios was finally able to fix the bloated file size Helldivers 2 has on PC. This version launched at 70GB, which is already a lot bigger than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions which only stand at around 35-40GB.
It then grew more in size and reached 154GB which was more than enough for many players to remove the game from their PCs to allow newer games like BF6 or BO7 in. With this latest update (which also includes the Python Commandos Warbond) however, they can re-install the game as it now sports a slimmer 23GB version. To clarify though, this isn’t the default version.
To get to it:
- Head to your Steam Library
- Right-click Helldivers 2 and choose properties
- Go to the Beta tab
- Choose “prod_slim” option from the Beta Participation dropdown
While there is no difference between the two (and no data will be lost) if you still choose to use the default version for now, instead of “prod_slim”, you can choose “prod_legacy.” from the options.
Once everything is tested and the devs are absolutely sure nothing will break, the slim version will eventually replace the now-default version.
