After only three years since its launch, Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis will end its service on October 6, 2026. Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is a free-to-play RPG that retells the events of the entire Final Fantasy 7 compilation, while also introducing brand-new stories like The First Soldier. The game first launched on iOS and Android on September 7, 2023, before arriving on PC via Steam on December 6, 2023.
Earlier today, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis will officially end service on October 6, 2026 at 11PM PT / October 7, 2026 at 2AM ET / 7AM BST. Alongside the notice, the company has also already stopped the sale of the in-game currency. Players who have unused Red Crystals can use them until the October shutdown. Refunds are available but this option is only offered to Taiwan residents.
The notice also clarified that all player account information will be permanently deleted after the servers close in order to protect user privacy.
As for why the game is shutting down, producer Shoichi Ichikawa addressed the decision in a separate letter published on the official website. He explained that the team ultimately found it increasingly difficult to balance visual quality with development costs while also maintaining healthy gameplay balance. According to Ichikawa, the team wanted to keep delivering the level of quality expected from a title carrying the Final Fantasy 7 name, but continuing to do so had become financially unsustainable.
