Escape the Backrooms brings its eerie liminal spaces to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass with full cross-play support.

After building a strong following on PC over the last few years, Escape the Backrooms has officially made its way to consoles. The viral co-op horror game is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing its unsettling maze of liminal spaces to a whole new audience. Even better, the game also arrived as a surprise day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass.

Escape the Backrooms Officially Arrives on Console and Xbox Game Pass

Escape the Backrooms is now officially available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with full cross-play support. Players on consoles can finally join PC users in exploring the game’s eerie environments together, whether that means surviving strange entities, solving puzzles, or simply trying not to get separated in the middle of a level.

Before reaching consoles, the game originally launched in Steam Early Access in 2022. Over the next few years, developer Fancy Games steadily expanded the experience with new levels, mechanics, and increasingly unsettling encounters inspired by the online Backrooms phenomenon. The game eventually reached its full 1.0 release in October 2025.

Since its early access launch, Escape the Backrooms has quietly built a dedicated player base on PC. The game currently holds thousands of Very Positive reviews on Steam and its growing popularity eventually led to a nomination for Game of the Year at the Horror Game Awards 2025.

Now, just six months after the full launch, Fancy Games and publisher Secret Mode have expanded the game onto consoles and also dropping it directly into Xbox Game Pass on day one, available for Ultimate, Premium, and PC members. That surprise release marks the final title joining the service for May 2026.
