Claiming Dying Light 2 on PS Plus Extra after getting it via Essential can override your permanent license. Here is how to avoid losing access.
- Dying Light 2 is offered across both PlayStation Plus Essential and the Extra Game Catalog in August.
- Downloading the game via the Extra catalog can override and replace your permanent Essential claim.
- Subscribers who previously claimed the Essential version should avoid re-downloading from the Extra library to prevent losing access when the title rotates out.
PlayStation Plus members have a rare overlap in their game library choices this month that requires a bit of attention. Dying Light 2 is currently available across different PS Plus subscription tiers, creating an easy trap for your digital game license.
Be Careful How You Download Dying Light 2 From PS Plus
It’s very rare that we see a game offered in both PS Plus Essential and Extra in the same month but August gave us exactly that with Dying Light 2. It’s an odd situation for those who have an active subscription this month since the inclusion is essentially redundant, especially for Extra or Premium members.
There is still a reason for Sony to put the game in both places though. The Essential monthly games rotate out every month but once a game is claimed, it remains available to download and play for as long as the member maintains a PS Plus subscription. The PS Plus Extra Game Catalog, on the other hand, gives Extra and Premium members access to a much larger library, with individual games able to leave the service later.
That makes Dying Light 2 useful for future Extra and Premium subscribers who might not have claimed it as an Essential monthly game. The problem is for people who already claimed it through Essential and then decide to download it again from the Game Catalog.
Downloading Dying Light 2 through the Game Catalog after claiming it through Essential can override the Essential license. That means the game may initially work normally but if Dying Light 2 eventually leaves the Extra catalog, the affected account will lose access to the game despite having previously claimed it as an Essential monthly game.
So, if you already claimed Dying Light 2 through Essential, the safest move is simple: don’t re-download it from the Extra Game Catalog.
Dying Light 2 joined the PS Plus Game Catalog on August 18 in most regions, while subscribers in the US, UK, and Japan are scheduled to receive it on August 25. The Essential version, meanwhile, has been available since August 4.
