Crimson Desert is the new action RPG in a fantasy open-world style from the team at Pearl Abyss. The renowned South Korean team behind the famous MMORPG Black Desert. This time, bringing a new fantasy experience inspired by classic open-world action RPGs. With the choice of a Single-Player adventure.
Revealed at The Game Awards 2020, and a particular highlight of Gamescom 2024, Bringing new details with a gameplay showcase and Overview. Initially scheduled for launch by the end of 2025, a recent announcement from the team has seen it pushed back to early 2026. Crimson Desert: Our Hands-On with the Gamescom Demo
Despite the announcement of the delay of Crimson Desert to 2026, the Pearl Abyss team is among the participants at Gamescom 2025. They’ve brought an entire booth dedicated to their ambitious single-player open-world action RPG. Fans attending the Cologne event got the chance to try it out in advance with the special Demo.
Our own Killian Binder got a chance to try the game, playing as Kliff in the world of Pywell. A session he spent trying out some of the countless combat skills and combos, in a game world that feels deeply alive, even offering freedom of moral choices.
He discovered the wrath of NPCs after running over a child, and even tried to rob a beggar. He concluded the demo with a Boss Fight against the traitor Cassius Morten himself, who appeared in the recent IGN showcase. And just like in the video, he used the pillars to defeat him.
Crimson Desert: The Latest on the Pearl Abyss Action RPG
The decision to delay to Q1 2026 is certainly not the first time the game has been postponed. With development that started back in 2019, it showcases an extremely interesting and ambitious project. These additional months will be used by Pearl Abyss to further polish the experience.
Meanwhile, at Gamescom, Crimson Desert is among the nominees for the Gamescom Awards 2025. It’s been nominated for 4 awards: Best Visuals, Most Epic, and Best Game for both Xbox and Playstation. Voting has just closed, and the winners will be announced on August 22, 2025, at 15:00 CEST / 6:00 am PT/ 9:00 am ET.

From what we’ve seen in the initial feedback, the new single-player fantasy action RPG from Pearl Abyss has won over many. With gameplay featuring a strong cinematic flair and an interactive and intensely alive game world.
