A new single-player Alien game is reportedly back in development at Eidos Montréal

Think the Xenomorph threat was over? Think again. According to a fresh report, a previously shelved single-player Alien experience is back in active development. And honestly? It sounds like the survival horror mashup we didn’t know we needed.

Learn everything you need to know about the Alien Movies and Game series from our Pixel Sundays!

Gameplay: Tomb Raider Meets Alien Survival Horror

Reliable leaker Tom Henderson (via Insider Gaming) has revealed that a new Alien title has been resurrected after a period of limbo.

The pitch is fascinating. The game is described as a “survival horror arcade single-player” experience. Players will reportedly fight to survive aboard an abandoned space station.

But you aren’t just facing standard threats. You are up against terrifying Xenomorphs and hostile special ops troops.

The most interesting detail? Sources describe the project as “Shadow of the Tomb Raider with Xenomorphs.”

This hints heavily at a mix of stealth, exploration, and high-stakes tension rather than a simple run-and-gun shooter.

Eidos Montréal & The Project’s Resurrection

This project has had a rocky road. Development allegedly began around 2020 under the codename “Marathon.” It was canceled, but it refused to die.

The studio behind this resurrection is reportedly Eidos Montréal.

If that name sounds familiar, it should. They are the team famous for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the modern Deus Ex titles, and yes, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

In terms of gameplay, we can expect a blend of:

  • Combat
  • Platforming
  • Puzzle-solving

You won’t just be shooting. You’ll need stealth, resource management, and engineering skills to repair machinery and bypass codes.

The enemy AI is also getting a massive boost. It is designed to adapt to your specific tactics rather than just rushing you blindly.

The Roster: Is Sigourney Weaver Returning?

Documents viewed by Insider Gaming outline three key characters for the narrative:

  • Aubrey: The protagonist. An engineer equipped with a grapple hook and magnetic boots.
  • Ryuzo: A potential antagonist who uses the space station as his personal fortress.
  • Ripley: The legendary heroine herself.

There is legitimate hope that Sigourney Weaver could reprise her role.

While nothing is signed yet, the team has reportedly made preliminary contact with the actress. That alone is a massive selling point.

Release Date and Budget

Here is the bad news: Don’t hold your breath. The game is currently slated for a 2028 release on all major platforms.

The budget is estimated to be under $75 million. This is significantly higher than the $30 million projection from a few years ago, suggesting a much larger scope.

It is important to note that the game is still in the early stages of development. Dates, budgets, and mechanics could change as production ramps up.

In Conclusion: Worth the Wait?

In my opinion, Eidos Montréal is the perfect studio for this.Their work on Deus Ex proves they understand atmosphere and immersive sims. Those elements are crucial for a top-tier Alien game. If they can capture even half the tension of Alien: Isolation while adding the traversal mechanics of Tomb Raider, we might be looking at a future classic.

What do you think? Do we need another survival horror Alien game, or would you prefer a shooter? Let us know in the comments!
