- Square Enix’s new HD-2D action RPG launched on June 18, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
- The game shifts from turn-based combat to real-time action, heavily utilizing a Magicite crafting system and fairy companion support.
- Players can transfer all progress, including currency and items, directly from the prologue demo into the full release.
What is The Adventures of Elliot?
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is Square Enix’s first fully original action RPG built in their signature HD-2D engine. Players take control of the adventurous boy Elliot and his fairy companion Fay as they explore the continent of Filevirdia.
The narrative revolves around the Doorway of Time, sending the duo across four distinct eras. From the height of the Age of Magic to the brink of extinction in the Age of Reconstruction, the environment and lore shift as players unravel a thousand-year destiny.
Unlike previous Team Asano titles like Octopath Traveler, combat here is fully real-time. The game features seven distinct weapons, seamless hot-swapping, and a highly customizable Magicite system to tailor your playstyle.
How Does Combat Work in This HD-2D RPG?
Combat focuses on real-time action using a two-weapon loadout, augmented by Fay’s magical support abilities and customizable Magicite shards. Players actively swing swords, block with shields, and manage spacing against enemies.
You can freely switch between weapons like the spear, boomerang, and chain sickle on the fly. Fay acts as an essential combat partner, offering five specific support spells. Her abilities range from “Warp” for instant repositioning to “Chakka,” which coats enemies in flames for explosive combo potential.
The Magicite system acts as the core progression tool instead of traditional leveling. By slotting different crafted stones into your gear, you can add elemental damage or unique effects, fundamentally altering how each weapon performs in battle.

What Are the Release Times and Platforms?
The game is available right now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Consoles received a rolling midnight local time release on June 18, 2026.
PC players using Steam had a slightly adjusted global rollout. The Steam version officially unlocked at 1 PM EST on June 18, following standard PC distribution patterns for Square Enix titles.
If you pre-ordered digitally on a console, the client should have automatically pre-loaded, allowing immediate access to the full campaign.

Does Demo Progress Carry Over?
Yes, all progress from the Prologue Demo transfers seamlessly to the full version of the game. Upon booting up the retail copy, you will receive a prompt to import your save file.
This transfer includes all collected Tul currency, crafted Magicite, side quest completion, and acquired items. You do not lose a single second of the progress you made since the demo launched in May.
However, cross-platform saves are not supported. If you started the demo on the Nintendo Switch 2, you must play the full game on that same platform to keep your progress.
How is Performance Across Hardware?
Reviews and technical deep-dives confirm that the game runs exceptionally well on current-generation hardware. The PlayStation 5 version offers incredibly fast load times and stable framerates, capitalizing on the beautiful visual contrast of the HD-2D engine.
Portable players also have a solid experience. The game shines on the Nintendo Switch 2, maintaining the striking visual identity without severe compromises, as well as local co-op, where a second player can control Fay.
Steam Deck users, as shared by Steam Deck HQ, can easily achieve a stable 45 FPS or 60 FPS by tweaking the resolution scale, proving the engine remains highly scalable for handheld PC hardware.
