Steam and Xbox players won’t be able to preload 007 First Light before early access. PlayStation remains the only platform with the option.
- Early access for 007 First Light begins today at 7AM PT / 3PM GMT, but Steam and Xbox players cannot preload the game.
- IO Interactive confirmed that preloading is exclusively available for PlayStation users, where it was mandatory.
- The PlayStation download size is 45.66GB, with an additional day-one patch of 25.24GB required upon unlock.
IO Interactive’s long-awaited James Bond game, 007 First Light, is almost here. Players are finally hours away from stepping into the role of the iconic spy in what marks a fresh start for the franchise in gaming. While the full launch is set for May 27, those who preordered the game are already on the final countdown for today’s early access launch. Unfortunately, not everyone can prepare for it as a big chunk of the community are unable to preload the game.
Steam and Xbox Players Won’t Get Preloading Before Early Access
The official global launch for 007 First Light is set for May 27, 2026 but the early access gates open today at 7AM PT / 10AM ET / 3PM GMT for pre-order holders. While PlayStation users have been able to preload the game since May 24, players on Steam and Xbox were left confused why the option never appeared on their systems once preloading began.
After a period of silence with no official notices or updated FAQs on the main site, an IO Interactive developer finally clarified the situation on Reddit confirming that preloading will not be supported on either Xbox or Steam.
That confirmation finally cleared things up, though it understandably frustrated many players. A major draw for pre-ordering was the ability to maximize the 24-hour early access period, and for players dealing with slower internet speeds, downloading the files in real time will significantly cut into that exclusive window.
It has led to questions why a feature that seemed standard on one platform couldn’t be implemented across all three, especially since the developer noted preloading was mandatory on PlayStation. What difference does it make then? Still, the decision is locked in and with launch now only hours away, there is not much longer to wait.
For PlayStation users who still haven’t downloaded the game yet, preloading is currently available for both digital and physical editions. The download size sits at 45.66GB, with a day-one patch reportedly weighing in at 25.24GB once the game unlocks.
Physical edition owners have also shared a few extra details ahead of release. According to early reports, the game can be played offline, with an internet connection only required to download the necessary files. Some players with physical copies also noted that the first mission in story mode is already playable ahead of the day-one patch.
