Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, the charming new platformer starring Nintendo’s beloved green dinosaur, has just received its official release date alongside a brand-new trailer. Up until today, all we knew was that the game would arrive sometime in Spring 2026, but Nintendo surprised fans with a rather unexpected reveal that also showed off a new creature and a few gameplay details.

Nintendo has officially confirmed that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will launch on May 21 for Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement arrives as part of this year’s Mario Day festivities. While the biggest spotlight of the celebration was taken by yesterday’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct which focused on the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie premiering on April 1, Nintendo clearly had a few more tricks ready to keep the entire Mario ecosystem involved in the celebration.
In a somewhat unexpected move, the company first revealed the game’s release date through the Nintendo Today! app, a clear push to get more players checking the platform regularly. Alongside the date, Nintendo also dropped a brand-new trailer highlighting a cute new creature called Glubbit. This bubbly companion can spit out floating bubbles that players can use to rise upward and reach high platforms that would otherwise be difficult to access.
The trailer also shows how different fruits can change the behavior of these bubbles. For instance, when Glubbit eats apples, the bubbles it creates become much larger, making it easier for Yoshi to float even higher.
As players progress through the game, they’ll collect more stars that unlock new chapters in the magical book world. Areas such as Mountainside and Seaside will gradually open up, introducing more environments, challenges, and creatures along the way.
The game’s presentation immediately brings back memories of the classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, with colorful, storybook-like visuals and a playful atmosphere that perfectly suits Yoshi’s platforming adventures. With a little over two months left before launch, there’s a good chance Nintendo will continue teasing additional creatures and gameplay features.
If today’s reveal is any indication of how Nintendo will announce things moving forward, those updates might appear first inside the Nintendo Today! app too.
