The game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is based on the 1974 horror film of the same name. Because of this, many horror fans were worried that this game might face licensing issues similar to what happened with “Friday the 13th.”
Due to the licensing problems faced by “Friday the 13th,” the game had to cease its service by the end of 2023, rendering it unplayable. Sumo Digital, the studio behind “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, wanted to avoid such a scenario. Therefore, the developers held negotiations with the sole owner of the franchise, Kim Henkel. They managed to work out an arrangement that allows the game to remain on the market permanently.
