Update January 17th, 19:30

Bethesda Game Studios, the developers of Starfield and the well-known franchises The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, have announced the largest patch for Starfield to date, which is supposed to enter beta today.

Starfield Patch

Key Information

  • On January 17, a Starfield patch will enter beta, bringing over 100 fixes and improvements.
  • The patch will officially be added to the game in about 2 weeks.

Starfield Patch

The new Starfield patch will enter the Steam Beta today. In this beta, the update can be tested. This helps the developers address minor errors before the official release of the patch. After the 2 weeks that the patch will be in the Steam Beta, it will also officially be released for all players.

The update is intended to make the game run more stably, leading to fewer crashes and performance issues. However, some graphical aspects will also be adjusted and improved. As announced at the release of Starfield, there will be additional widescreen support, making Starfield playable on almost any monitor. Some textures will also be improved with the patch, as well as lighting and shadows.

Many of the missions that have repeatedly caused problems should no longer do so. Especially the mission Eye of the Storm, which can be completed for the Crimson Fleet, has often led to issues for players. In many cases, players were unable to connect with Legacy or Data Transfer, preventing the completion of this mission. But Bethesda has addressed and fixed all these problems.

There are also improvements to some less noticeable things. For example, the shadows of planet rings or a new, comprehensive geometry of the sun disk. Errors where asteroids follow the ship have also been fixed.

The full update notes will be published as soon as the patch is available in the beta on Steam. Then you can then see in detail what has been improved.

Starfield Patch Delayed

The Big Starfield Patch, which was supposed to be released today, will be delayed for a few days. Bethesda encountered some issues that set back their schedule. Bethesda’s Community Manager mentioned that the developers have identified an issue they want to address before releasing the patch as a beta.

Bethesda has not provided a specific release date for the patch. They only mentioned on Discord that they hope the patch will be out later this week. If Bethesda can resolve this last issue and then release the Starfield Patch on Steam as a beta, players can expect a significantly improved gaming experience with fewer bugs and enhanced gameplay mechanics.
