Skyrim has received pretty much every imaginable mod over the last 15 years. Now, an extremely unexpected collaboration is taking place. IKEA has actually released an official Skyrim creation named KALLAX STORAGEBORN. In this mod, the well-known Kallax shelf turns into a proper companion.

Skyrim Ikea Kallax Mod
Key Takeaways
  • IKEA has released a free official Skyrim creation called KALLAX STORAGEBORN.
  • The Kallax shelf becomes a fully voiced companion and helps with transporting loot.
  • Alongside Kallax, there is a dedicated quest, new dungeons, items, and numerous IKEA jokes.

Kallax is not just a piece of furniture or decoration, but a fully fledged companion. Its main purpose is to solve every Skyrim player’s oldest problem: too much loot and too little carrying capacity. Kallax is even fully voiced by Matt Berry. The creation is completely free and even offers new missions.

IKEA Sends Kallax to Skyrim

KALLAX STORAGEBORN is a free creation for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. This is a collaboration between IKEA and the Skyrim modding community. The mod was developed by Kinggath Creations, a well-known modder famous in particular for the Sim Settlements mod for Fallout 4. His studio previously developed the East Empire Expansion for Skyrim, for example.

At the center of the new creation is a living Kallax shelf. This shelf is named Kallax Storageborn, accompanying you through Skyrim. It takes items and loot off your hands to prevent encumbrance, carrying the burdens of players. Because every player knows the struggle: walking through a dungeon, suddenly ending up with 12 wheels of cheese, and being unable to sprint. This is precisely where IKEA steps in with Kallax, known for its storage solutions, creating a brilliant marketing gag. Kallax is fully voiced by actor Matt Berry, meaning considerable effort went into this promotional stunt.

Dedicated Quest, IKEA Dungeons, and of Course an Allen Wrench

The mod consists of more than just a new companion; it also includes a dedicated questline. To start it, you must be overencumbered, fittingly for the mod. This triggers the journey to Kallax. During this quest, you venture into an abandoned Dwemer emporium to uncover the origins of a mysterious “Master.”

As the quest progresses, you assemble your very own Kallax Storageborn. In total, the IKEA mod offers a new quest, two IKEA-inspired dungeons, new enemies, and even a boss fight at the end of the quest.

The boss is the Clutter Golem, essentially a monster made of household clutter—the ultimate final boss for IKEA. The mod also introduces new items such as the Allenblade (a Dwemer allen wrench used as a weapon) and a Meatball helmet. There is also a new dragon shout: “AYE-KEY-YAH,” an obvious IKEA pun. With this shout, Kallax can be summoned even when it is not currently selected as your active companion, allowing it to practically carry your dungeon loot at all times.

More Than Just a Rather Absurd Marketing Gag

Of course, the whole thing is primarily marketing, and IKEA makes no secret of that. The company bridges its real-world theme of storage and organization directly with a well-known issue in Skyrim. Yet, they have turned their marketing into a product that is genuinely fun and delivers actual content. The mod is currently available to play for free on PC and Xbox, requiring only the Skyrim Special Edition.
