Whispers circulating online suggest that Capcom is currently working on a Dead Rising sequel. It will reportedly star fan-favorite Frank West and take place in Hollywood.

According to a report by MP1st and partially VGC, Capcom has been working on the rumored new Dead Rising title since 2023, and it could be a direct sequel to the original 2006 zombie action-adventure game.
Codenamed “Rec,” the game’s story will unfold in a zombie-infested Hollywood and will feature the returning “time limit mechanic” and Frank’s iconic camera.
Where Did the Leak Come From?
Rumors have emerged from an MP1st report, partially corroborated by VGC sources, claiming that the game will take place in a “massive, enclosed movie set” in Hollywood. The villain will be a director who seeks to shoot the “perfect” movie.
Capcom has not officially confirmed or denied the rumors. However, the company has previously said it wants to work on “re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently,” after asking fans to vote on franchises they’d like to see make a return.
Capcom’s Strategy to Revive Dormant IPs
Dead Rising 4, released in 2016, failed to inspire fans, with many feeling the game stripped much of what made the series special, including its tense time limits, over-the-top boss battles, and poor story.
However, the release of the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster last year has largely reignited interest in the series, offering a fresh look at the 2006 original, bolstered by the visuals and quality-of-life improvements made possible by Capcom’s impressive RE Engine, which powers recent successful remakes like Resident Evil 2.
The Return of Core Dead Rising Mechanics
If the rumors of a Dead Rising sequel prove true, fans will expect a return to the sandbox world of the originals. There is hope that it will return to the intense, tight time limits and offer a sheer density of enemies that they can tear through effortlessly with over-the-top, crafted weapons.
Driven by Capcom’s recent success in launching remakes, fans are hoping any sequel will capture the tone of the originals, which deliver brutal, timed chaos the series is renowned for.
Hopes are High for a Dead Rising Sequel
Rumors of a Dead Rising sequel to the 2006 original game are exciting fans for the first new entry in 10 years. Fans hope to see Frank West return, along with core mechanics from the originals that help make the series intense, hilarious, and ridiculously fun.
