H2: RetroSpace Begins Its Journey Into the Black Hole in October
The new gameplay trailer released today for RetroSpace reveals October 1, 2026, as the official release date at the end of the footage. At the same time, all confirmed launch platforms are shown for the first time. On PC, the game will be available via Steam, alongside releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. No announcements have been made for PS4, Xbox One, or the original Switch. The game is developed by The Wild Gentlemen, known for “Chicken Police – Paint it RED!”
In the game, you take on a rather unusual heroic role—specifically, the role of a janitor. Following a catastrophe, he may be humanity’s last remaining hope. The setting is the massive Aurora 5 space station, which has been entirely swallowed by a sentient black hole. Due to this black hole, space and, in particular, time are thrown into chaos.
The trailer showcases various bizarre creatures including the black hole itself, different firearms, stealth mechanics, mutations, sections of the Aurora 5, and numerous explosions. Visually, the game deliberately opts for a retro look combining low-poly graphics with 1960s and 1970s retrofuturism. In tone, RetroSpace aims to be dark, absurd, humorous, and partially satirical all at once. Despite the heavy doses of humor, The Wild Gentlemen promise an extensive story filled with twists.
Stealth, Mutations, and Clones: How RetroSpace Works
Gameplay-wise, RetroSpace draws strong inspiration from classic immersive sims. The situations you encounter do not have just a single predetermined solution; instead, you can forge your own path. You can completely bypass enemies and stay hidden, create distractions, set traps, hack the security system to turn the station’s turrets against foes, or discover hidden routes. The possibilities are nearly endless, allowing every player to experience the game on their own terms.

The enemies aboard the Aurora 5 are designed to vary significantly from one another. You must first study their behaviors, abilities, and vulnerabilities to defeat them effectively. The environment also plays a vital role; for instance, security systems that initially pose a threat can later be turned into weapons. The Aurora 5 features a Metroidvania-like layout where you uncover new areas, unlock shortcuts, and must revisit earlier locations later on.
One of the most striking features in RetroSpace is the use of “mutamods.” These allow you to mutate your character to enhance combat, stealth, or special abilities. Well-known examples include tentacle arms, mind control, and improved concealment skills. However, these mutations may carry unexpected and irreversible side effects, meaning every new ability comes with distinct drawbacks.
Death is also an explicit part of the gameplay loop. Theoretically, the Aurora 5 can generate an infinite number of janitor clones. Upon dying, you do not simply reload a checkpoint; instead, new clones may suffer from conditions such as degeneration. Following death, you must track down your previous body to retrieve the equipment you were carrying. This introduces a light retrieval and roguelite element, though RetroSpace is not presented as a traditional roguelike. The cloning system aligns seamlessly with the absurd narrative while introducing meaningful consequences for death.
