Red Dead Redemption 2 Has Best Month on Steam for 2 Years
Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is enjoying its best month for average player count on Steam in two years, thanks in part to the Steam Winter Sale.

RDR2 ENJOYS SURGE IN PLAYER NUMBERS
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic RPG set in America at the dawn of the modern age.
Released in October 2018, it only launched on Steam in December 2019, in which it reached an average player count of 28,627 and a peak player count of 55,269.
It never reached 20,000 average players again after February 2020 until last month, when it gained a 40% gain in players.
Possibly thanks to the Steam Winter Sale 2021, RDR2 reached an average player count of 22.686 and a peak player count of 39,284.
In comparison, Rockstar’s own GTA V has very rarely dropped below 80,000 average players since release and in December 2019 recorded 91,251.
And GTA V launched on Valve’s platform in April 2015.
It’s hard to give an exact reason why Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t as popular as GTA V, as both games have a review score on Steam of more than 80% positive.
However, we can estimate that it is probably down to the fact that GTA Online continues to see regular updates and massive content drops. In contrast, Red Dead Online tends to be somewhat forgotten about by Rockstar.
Of course, we still highly recommend the game, and although we think Red Dead Online is not quite up to the high standards of GTA Online, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an incredible story-driven RPG you should play.
THE BEST TIME TO PLAY RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2
With players once more jumping into the game and the Steam Winter Sale running until January 5, now is the perfect time to grab the reins and ride into RDR2.
