Kona is an adventure narrative-driven game with a focus on exploration and discovery. The game is set in October 1970 and centers on Carl Faubert, a private investigator who arrives in Nord-du-Québec, only to find the place deserted with an eerie presence lurking around.

You will investigate the abandoned town, search for clues, interview survivors if you find any, and ultimately piece together the mystery of what happened to it and its residents. The game is known for its strong atmosphere created by the town’s isolation and constant snowfall. That plus a lack of town people certainly creates a feeling of constant unease.

Kona was initially released on Early Access in March 2016 and had its full release later that year. It managed to have a strong following since then and has continued to please its fans when the sequel, Kona 2 Brume, launched in October last year.




Where to play Kona for free?

If you have an active Game Pass subscription, you can start playing Kona for free starting April 9, 2024. It is available for Game Pass Console and Xbox Cloud Gaming subscribers.

The game was previously added to the service but left almost three years ago. So if you were playing it and weren’t able to finish it then, then lucky you! You still don’t have to buy the game and now will be able to finish it for free.
