Is Xbox Game Pass Premium Finally Getting Day-One Launches?
Microsoft may be planning another Xbox Game Pass shake-up, with early talks of merging Premium and PC tiers, potentially bringing day-one releases and price changes.
We just had a major Xbox Game Pass overhaul last year and it looks like Microsoft is already looking for ways to change it up further. Don’t worry, we’re not looking at a 2026 timeline, but possibly a 2027.
And since the headliner of the last update was the price increase of Ultimate, this latest development may be looking at an increase for the Premium tier by merging it with PC Game Pass. And we all know what that means. Day-one launches.
The Future of Xbox Game Pass Premium
Xbox Game Pass remains to be the biggest subscription service in the industry today. To be fair, overall, it does give the most value for your money. It could be debated but for the most part, people stay on Playstation Plus mainly because it’s their console of choice.
Last year’s overhaul was met with some resistance because of how high the price increase was for Ultimate. Some had a hunch it was about to happen though since 2025 truly was one for the books.
Premium and PC tiers remained at their current prices but got some value-added perks like Cloud Gaming which was exclusively for Ultimate before. So it’s really just a matter of time before the cost of these subscriptions go up. And from the looks of it, Microsoft may have found a way to justify the increase. And by a lot too.
According to a report by Tom Warren of The Verge, Microsoft is in the early stages of exploring ways to expand Game Pass further. Apart from bundling more third-party services to the subscription, they’re also looking at merging Xbox Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass.
If this were to become final, Premium members are looking at not just day-one launches but also EA Play and Ubisoft+. But to reiterate, they’re still at the brainstorming stage so don’t hold your breath for it just yet.
