Today, the mech shooter Armored Core 6 – Fires of Rubicon has been released for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series XIS. But does it have the potential to become one of the best mech shooters?
Key Facts
Release Date: 25th August, available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series XIS.
You play as Raven, a mech pilot tasked with acquiring rare materials on Rubicon.
You’ll have the freedom to fully customize your mech.
A Look at the Development Studio
Armored Core 6 was developed by FromSoftware, a studio that has been mainly known for the Souls games in recent years, including Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and many other titles.
Even though the last Armored Core game is a decade old, this release breathes new life into the series.
What Does Armored Core 6 Offer?
Armored Core 6 presents a variety of short missions, averaging 5-20 minutes each, providing a total of about 20 hours of gameplay. Upon completion of missions, you earn credits, which you can use to acquire new weapons and armour for your mech.
You’ll encounter numerous foes, including other mechs, futuristic tanks, and combat helicopters equipped with machine guns. Sometimes, it might be nearly impossible to tackle a mission with your current mech. In such cases, consider adapting your mech accordingly.
The battles are consistently engaging and demand precision. The outcome relies not on chance, but on how skillfully you deploy your various weapons and abilities, as well as how accurately you aim.
For both mobility and combat, you have a jetpack that allows you to soar into the air for a strategic advantage against your enemies.
Story
In Armored Core 6, you step into the shoes of a pilot named Raven, who’s assigned to secure an exceedingly rare resource on Rubicon. However, the execution of the story is only moderately done. Cutscenes are few and far between, and most of the story is conveyed through your missions and additional information during missions, usually in the form of still images without cutscenes.
Customisation Options
If you take pleasure in crafting your mechs according to your vision, Armored Core 6 won’t disappoint. The game offers extensive customisation options and an editor that enables you to meticulously shape your mech.
