Who Is Xal’atath in Heroes of the Storm?

Xal’atath is a void-wielding ranged assassin in Heroes of the Storm who controls space and executes marked enemies through an external object called the Dark Heart. As the 91st playable hero in the Nexus, Xal’atath represents the first original character addition to the Blizzard Entertainment MOBA roster since late 2020.

Blizzard Entertainment confirmed the character launch in an official Blizzard announcement, framing the arrival as a fresh phase for the game. The Harbinger of the Void relies on spatial foresight and extended engagements. Xal’atath’s combat threat steadily increases the longer an objective skirmish lasts.

Abilities and Playstyle: Controlling Space with the Dark Heart

The void specialist uses an unconventional ability suite engineered around area denial, mobility, and secondary resource management. Xal’atath relies on mana alongside a secondary resource named Soul Essence. Basic attacks generate essence to charge Void Volley, a trait that fires six void projectiles at a targeted ground location.

Shadow Mark casts an orb that inflicts baseline damage and reveals targets struck by its center for four seconds. The projectile marks opposing champions, causing summoned minions and the Dark Heart to pursue marked targets.

Dark Heart Ritual deploys a floating relic that pulses area damage before tracking marked opponents. The talisman collides with marked targets to detonate heavy burst damage across surrounding enemies.

Void Step teleports Xal’atath along a triangular trajectory across three successive blinks. Each teleport stacks weapon damage by ten percent, giving players rapid repositioning options and direct offensive scaling.

Heroic abilities offer distinct utility for map control. Void Eruption channels a massive orb that blinds targets on contact before detonating, while Void Convergence summons a persistent portal that spawns void minions into nearby lanes.

Players can purchase Xal’atath immediately for around $8 through the in-game shop, while Blizzard Entertainment plans an in-game gold option for late November. Blizzard statements confirm that ongoing production prioritizes unconventional hero kits, team synergy, and clear match pacing over rigid esports formatting. The comprehensive Patch 57 notes introduce system wide balance adjustments for characters like Mal’Ganis, Alexstrasza, and Qhira, alongside early health reductions for the Garden of Terror shambler.
