Is a New Killzone Game Currently in Development?
A new Killzone title is in early production through a partnership between Guerrilla Games and an external studio, according to an investigative MP1st report. The unannounced project focuses on remaking an earlier franchise entry—most likely the 2004 PlayStation 2 original—rather than delivering an immediate mainline sequel.
Anonymous industry sources confirmed that production remains in the prototype phase. Guerrilla Games selected an external partner outside the primary PlayStation Studios group to handle core development duties.
Studio reporting indicates that the team favors updating the debut 2004 release over later installments. Rebuilding the initial Helghast conflict reintroduces the franchise narrative to new players after a decade of inactivity.

People Can Fly Emerges as Primary Co-Developer
Industry records point directly to Polish developer People Can Fly as the external partner. The Outriders and Bulletstorm studio signed an official agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment in March 2025 to develop Project Delta, an unannounced production based on PlayStation intellectual property.
The contractual timeline aligns with the production schedule detailed in recent leaks. People Can Fly manages multiple global partnerships, and Project Delta stands as the studio’s primary joint effort with Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Horizon Pipeline Delays Reshape Guerrilla’s Production Schedule
Guerrilla Games originally scheduled the Killzone prototype to follow the release of Horizon Hunter’s Gathering. The cooperative multiplayer project faced severe pushback during closed beta testing, where players criticized repetitive mission objectives and stylized, cartoon visuals.
Sony management ordered a comprehensive reboot of the project into a traditional cooperative experience with a dedicated story campaign. Guerrilla Games must allocate veteran personnel to stabilize the title before redeploying technical leads to support Killzone.
Internal production pipelines indicate that a prospective third mainline Horizon title will follow the Killzone remake. Studio leadership continues to adjust milestone targets while engineering teams rebuild Horizon Hunter’s Gathering.

Why Is Sony Reviving Killzone on PlayStation 5?
Sony Interactive Entertainment lacks a dedicated first-party first-person shooter in its active portfolio, creating a visible catalog gap following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Reviving the established Helghast narrative allows PlayStation to re-enter the competitive shooter space with proven intellectual property.
PlayStation has not published a mainline franchise release since Killzone: Shadow Fall debuted on PlayStation 4 in 2013. Sony officially decommissioned the multiplayer servers for Shadow Fall in August 2022, concluding an active nine-year community tenure.
Player interest in the intellectual property resurfaced recently through a crossover in Helldivers 2. Arrowhead Game Studios added classic Helghast armor sets, demonstrating continued audience demand for the science-fiction setting.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has not scheduled a formal reveal broadcast for the title. Guerrilla Games and People Can Fly continue milestone evaluations as prototype production progresses.
