Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gameplay details

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is just a couple of days away from release, and there’s excitement building ahead of the launch as it’s being hailed as the best single-player Final Fantasy game in over 20 years.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade left off, with Cloud and friends escaping Midgar, and it will end at The Forgotten Capital. Although players can jump into this without playing Remake, you should remember that Rebirth is the second video game in a planned trilogy, all of which are a remake of the 1997 original turn-based RPG.

Much like the original game, there are dozens of hours worth of content; whether you’re going through the story or busying yourself with the endless number of minigames, including those at the Golden Saucer, you can expect nearly 100 hours of content.

Those that played Remake will find Rebirth switch things up quite a bit with many more open-world areas to explore, a little more freedom in where to go, and more playable characters, as Yufie, Cait Sith, and Red XIII all join the main party. And, of course, you can play as Sephiroth during a flashback sequence.

Adding more playable characters means more synergies and abilities in which two characters perform joint attacks or joint effects. There are also new Summons with Phoenix, Titan, and Bahamut Arisen, and you can expect a few more to join you as you progress through the story.

And everyone’s favorite pastime, taming and riding chocobos, finally comes into the game, as does Chocobo Racing, which also lets you customize your chocobo’s saddle, feathers, and caps.

You’ll never be short of things to see or do in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and those who have been playing the PS5 demo or been playing the game have praised it with it currently sitting on 92 on Metacritic.

I remember playing the original in 1997 and being blown away by the gameplay, graphics, and story. I didn’t even know about Final Fantasy 1-6. And getting the chance to play it all over again, with modern graphics and new gameplay elements is an experience I’m not going to miss, and you shouldn’t either.
