EA Purge Rumored To Continue With Codemasters Complete Shutdown

EA may shut down Codemasters next, following Cliffhanger Games. Leaker claims 400 more layoffs and staff moved to F1 and new Need for Speed project.

If the latest rumors prove true, Cliffhanger Games won’t be the only casualty in EA’s ongoing internal purge. According to fresh reports from a reliable industry leaker, Codemasters, the iconic British racing game studio, may be facing a complete shutdown under EA’s restructuring efforts.

 

EA Rumored To Close Down Codemasters

Codemasters, known for its acclaimed racing franchises such as DiRT, GRID, and the official F1 series, has long held a reputation as one of the industry’s premier developers of motorsport sims. In 2021, EA acquired the studio to expand its racing game portfolio, adding it to a growing collection of studios under the EA Sports and EA Games umbrella.

However, amid the confirmed cancellation of EA’s Black Panther game and the closure of Cliffhanger Games, Codemasters now appears to be next in line for the chopping block. This revelation comes from Extas1s, a well-known leaker and industry insider, who reports that another 400 layoffs are expected as part of EA’s restructuring, alongside the full shutdown of Codemasters.

According to the report, developers currently based at Codemasters’ headquarters will be relocated to other EA teams. Some will reportedly join EA Sports to continue working on the F1 series, while others will be reassigned to support the development of a brand-new Need for Speed title, which is already in production.

   

As of now, neither EA nor Codemasters has officially confirmed these reports. Both companies have remained silent on the matter, offering no public comment to either confirm or deny the claims.

While unconfirmed, the possibility of losing Codemasters would mark a significant shift for EA’s racing game future especially given the studio’s legacy and recent efforts under EA’s ownership. For now, the racing game community and industry watchers are left to wait for official word as EA’s restructuring saga continues.
