Developer Cyan Worlds has released a teaser trailer for a Myst game. Unfortunately, the puzzle game has been cancelled and is not in active development.

- Developer Cyan Worlds has officially cancelled an unannounced Myst project codenamed Project Anglerfish, releasing a surprise teaser trailer to showcase the scrapped vision.
- The prototype featured the franchise’s signature intricate puzzles, strong voice acting, atmospheric exploration, and a chilling villain.
- Although Project Anglerfish will not move forward, Cyan Worlds confirmed that the team remains hard at work on other projects within the Myst universe.
Cyan Worlds’ unexpected teaser for a cancelled Myst game has given fans a rare, bittersweet look at an ambitious adventure that will never reach store shelves.
The trailer, titled “A path not taken,” was released on Cyan Worlds’ YouTube channel, and, according to the developer, was cancelled for a “variety of reasons.”
What led to the cancellation of the new Myst project?
Cyan Worlds has not stated what explicitly led to the Myst project’s cancellation. However, according to development director Hannah Gamiel and creative director Eric A. Anderson, the game was scrapped due to several reasons.
Fortunately for fans, the studio has decided to show the teaser for the doomed Myst game, codenamed “Project Anglerfish”, which was a prototype only previously seen by potential publishers. You can see that trailer below.
What did the scrapped concept trailer reveal about the game?
Project Anglerfish’s trailer shows a beautiful world and core gameplay focused on Cyan Worlds’ iconic intricate puzzles that fans of the Myst series have come to love.
Additionally, there’s some fantastic voice acting, a villain that will send shivers down your spine, and exploration that brings the world and lore to life.
It’s a shame that the project never moved forward, as the game looks like it could have been a standout title in an already incredible puzzle series.
Is there any hope for a revival or future franchise entries?
It seems unlikely that Cyan Worlds will return to Project Anglerfish, as the developer says it is “still hard at work on other new Myst universe things.”
While the game was cancelled, the studio has shared the teaser as it says it is still “proud of the work the team did” on the game.
